The Interview
Whitt Weekly: We noticed that you’ve
recently been featured in The Collegian as the “Student Highlight.”
Lizzie Fortenberry: Yes.
WW: So, we’re gonna try to direct this
interview in a different direction, rather than “what made you decide to
come to MC.”
LF: Ok, good.
WW: We’ll begin by asking, “What’s
your favorite color?”
LF: Red, because it’s rebellious. It
really brings out the fire in you. Also, it’s the color of love.
WW: Speaking of love, how would you
define your dating life during your years at [this college]?
LF: Dating means attending social functions.
WW: That’s all?
LF: Yeah. Of course, I have made a
whole lot of “guy friends.”
WW: We smell what you’re cookin’. Moving
on, do you prefer to wear pants or skirts?
LF: Definitely pants.
WW: In that case, do you like jeans
or cargo pants?
LF: I like cargo pants or khakis. The
reason I don’t like skirts that much is because I hate wearing pantyhose.
I’m sure pantyhose were created by men.
WW: Touche.
LF: I also like getting really dressed
up–like for formals and stuff.
WW: We can imagine. So why did you
decide to change clothes between Biology this morning and this interview?
LF: You guys, that was just windsuit
pants and a t-shirt. I don’t wanna wear that all day.
WW: That’s the kind of stuff we wear
all day.
LF: Well, I had worn it once this weekend,
and I.....well, I also wanted to put on the funky London shoes that I got
last spring.
WW: Ok, fair enough. Some students
may not have realized that your dad is a professor in the communications
department. What’s the deal with Dr. Fortenberry’s beard?
LF: Um, it’s been there a long time.
He says that he doesn’t have a chin, so he covers it up with his beard.
He thinks it's manly looking, I guess. There's nothing living in there
though, I promise.
WW: Who’s your favorite Hampstead’s
employee?
LF: Sherie Oliver–she’s the night shift
leader, and she’s so sweet.
WW: And what’s your favorite Hampstead’s
menu item?
LF: I think my favorite things are
the chocolate chip cookies. I’m also a big fan of the Baked Lays, but they
told me they won’t have any until Spring Break.
WW: Really? Anything else?
LF: I also like the service at Hampstead’s–it’s
always really fast.
WW: That comment sounded a little tongue-in-cheek,
Lizzie. We like that.
LF: What can I say?
WW: Do you have time for any hobbies?
LF: I like to sing and play the piano.
Oh, I like to watch people. When I was in London, I liked just sitting
on a bench and watching what people do–you can learn a lot doing that.
And I really enjoy traveling, but I don’t have any money. So, if you’re
interested in donating to the Lizzie Fortenberry Traveling Fund, just–
WW: Uh, we’ll give donation info for
the F.T.F. a little later on. What do you think of our new correspondent,
Maxwell the Bear?
LF: Oh! He’s so cute and fuzzy! I love
him!
WW: Great. [good job, Maxwell] That
about does it. But one last question: What’s your favorite website?
LF: The Whittington Weekly–definitely.
WW: That’s right. [we didn’t tell her
to say that either] Thanks a lot, Lizzie.
LF: No, thank you. You guys are so
sweet.
